Whisker Wisdom: What my 90-day beard revealed about my writing life.
Lush, swirly, swaying and surging, my bookbeard was in full bloom on Day 90. My writing projects? Well… umm. Still cranking on those.
Inspired by the NHL tradition of hockey players growing playoff beards during their hunt for the Stanley Cup, I figured a bookbeard-or-bust mindset would finally help me finish three writing projects in 90 days.
Plan A: Get those stories written and cash in.
Plan B (which scared me to death so it was a good motivator to crush Plan A): Go on my next job interview as the Skittles’ dude.
I pitched the razor for the writing.
But sorry. No news to share about awesome new book deals I landed. (Though I eventually did self-publish Toe Jam and The Toenail Fairies and still sell copies from the trunk of my car.) Instead, it’s about sharing a new-found whisker wisdom that helped shape my future writing philosophy. Might be blindingly obvious to most. It was all new and totally welcomed by me.
